South Sands Hotel is a welcoming, independent hotel on the beachfront of South Sands in Salcombe. With stunning views over the estuary and our personable team, South Sands offers a laid-back atmosphere that sees our guests return time and time again.

History

“In 2008, we bought the derelict building, that had once been the ‘South Sands Hotel’, a small seaside hotel with its roots in the 1950’s and 1960’s. With such a stunning location, we wanted to create a hotel and new restaurant with wonderful views over the beach. We had an exciting vision and started to rebuild the hotel, an open aspect restaurant and a new sea view terrace area. 

We oversaw the design and managed the build, and in May 2010 we opened the doors to our new fabulous South Sands Hotel.

We wanted to create an open, welcoming and friendly hotel and restaurant where our guests and ‘pop-in’ visitors have the space, time and freedom to relax in a way that makes their holiday their own. We are small, proudly independent and always looking to best serve our guests, who appreciate our individuality.”

Freya General Manager

Freya Pearce - General Manager

Freya is South Sands’ General Manager. Her energy and enthusiasm for South Sand’s Hotel stems from her love of the area, and guests appreciate her knowledge on the best local walks and activities. 

What started as a placement year as part of her Tourism Management degree in 2011, Freya has worked her way to becoming South Sands’ General Manager. With her in-depth knowledge of the hotel and the local area, it’s a position she thoroughly enjoys. 

Freya is an avid lover of the great outdoors and often pushes herself with challenging adventures, including her recent achievement of completing the Dart 10k swim. She stays active with her numerous hobbies, including yoga, road and mountain cycling, wild swimming and walking with her two dogs. Having completed the South West Coast Path on foot, Freya’s next exciting challenge is to SUP the same route!

A hotel’s personality is made by its team, and having a General Manager who is as friendly, knowledgeable and passionate as Freya is one of the reasons South Sands is known and loved by so many new and returning guests.
