Holidays & Short Breaks in Devon

Walk this way

South Sands hotel not only has the beach as it’s doorstep but is a hotspot for some of the country’s best cliff tip walks with the most breath taking scenery. You canexplore the beauty of the surrounding coastal paths and stunning views out to sea beginning right here at our doorstep. So lace up your walking boots and discover a spectacular stretch of coast made up of secluded sandy coves and majestic ragged cliffs.

South Sands is part of the South West Coast Path National Trail which is 630 miles long and one of the largest in the UK.  The heritage, wildlife, geology and scenery along the way are truly inspirational and every day walking it brings stunning new experiences.

You are thoroughly spoiled for choice with the incredible walking routes in the area and even if you decide simply to walk in to town you will experience stunning views from the little coastal road in to the centre of Salcombe. There are plenty to choose from;  relaxing, sedate walks to more challenging and adventurous.  And if you’re going out for hours, the hotel will provide you with a delicious packed lunch.

Here are a few ideas to get you started or follow the links below for more information on all walks in the area:

Bolberry Down & Soar Mill Cove Walk

Bolberry Down

Bolberry Down has levelled circular trails through a breath taking coastal landscape with dramatic cliff top with far-reaching views.

Snapes Point

Drink in the views of the Salcombe Estuary. The picturesque location of Snapes Point projects directly onto the Kingsbridge Estuary, and offers stunning views in both directions. There is also the chance to spot rare birdlife such as the nationally rare cirl bunting, the blackcap and chiffchaff.

Salcombe to Hope Cove

A coastline of dramatic cliffs, open farmland and sandy coves. Follow the coast path down to the golden sands at Soar Mill Cove and spend a day on the beach or discover fantastic views from the iconic jagged rocks at Bolt Head. Take a trip inland up the Salcombe estuary and gaze down on the beautiful waters alive with yatchs and sailing ships.
