Salcombe and the South Hams have a fantastic amount to offer both the energetic and more relaxed visitor. Sailing and water sports are, of course, extremely popular in the warmer months but the shooting and walking trails are also some of the most popular in the South of England. People fall in love with the area as soon as they start to explore it.

With the beach on the hotel doorstep there’s plenty to keep your little ones occupied.  Enjoy sunbathing, splashing about and building sand castles right here using the hotel as your base and you can pad in and out as you please and have lunch on the terrace.

Catch the ferry in to town to buy your buckets and spades and get your ice creams, there’s also a toy shop and Cranch’s Pantry, a traditional old fashioned sweet shop bursting with naughtiness.

Crabbing is great fun and very popular here in Salcombe and there are numerous spots off the quay to dangle your fishing lines and have competitions to see who can catch the most.

Wander up and down Island Street to see the speedboats at Ranieri and dive in to the chandlers to see fresh crabs and lobsters in their tanks. At the end of the Street you’ll find the award winning  Salcombe Dairy Ice Cream Factory and shop which is guaranteed to buy you at least ten minutes of sheer contentment and more importantly, complete silence. Happy Days.

A ten minute walk up the road and you’ll find North Sands Beach. North Sands is a tidal beach so check the times before you go to make sure there’s some sand to sit on.  It’s  great for sunbathing, playing and splashing about. There is a car park here and a grassy picnic area which is great for ball games, bbq’s and dogs.
